Visitor’s Visa allows foreign nationals to enter South Africa temporarily for purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, attending short business meetings, or receiving medical treatment. Generally issued for up to 90 days, the visa can sometimes be extended depending on the applicant’s circumstances and purpose of stay. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial means, valid travel documents, and intent to return to their home country at the end of their visit.

A Visitor’s Visa allows a foreign national to enter and stay in South Africa temporarily for specific, lawful purposes. Depending on the reason for the visit, the following categories may apply:

Tourism: For individuals visiting South Africa for holiday or leisure purposes.Family or Friends Visit: For visiting relatives or friends who reside in South Africa.

Business Visits: For attending meetings, conferences, or engaging in short-term business activities (without taking up employment).

Medical Treatment: For individuals seeking medical care in South Africa.

Study (Short Courses): For attending a course or program lasting up to 90 days.

Volunteering or Charitable Work: For unpaid, short-term volunteer activities.

Accompanying a Spouse or Partner: For dependents of those on other valid permits or visas.

A Visitor’s Visa is generally issued for a period of up to 90 days. In some cases, it may be extended for an additional 90 days, depending on the purpose of stay and at the discretion of the Department of Home Affairs.

The applicant must hold a valid passport and proof of sufficient financial means.

A return or onward travel ticket must be provided.

Applicants must not intend to permanently reside or work in South Africa.

Medical and travel insurance may be required depending on the length and nature of the stay.

Holders of a Visitor’s Visa may not take up employment or paid work unless authorized under a specific visa category.

The visa cannot be changed to another visa type from within South Africa — applicants must apply from their country of residence.

Overstaying the visa period may result in being declared undesirable for future travel to South Africa.
