INTRA - COMPANY TRANSFER (ICT) VISA

INTRA - COMPANY TRANSFER (ICT) VISA

An Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Visa allows foreign employees of multinational companies to be temporarily transferred to a South African branch, subsidiary, or affiliate of their employer. This visa is designed for key personnel, managers, specialists, or trainees who are needed in South Africa for a defined period. Applicants must provide proof of employment, a transfer letter from the parent company, and relevant qualifications or experience. The ICT visa is typically valid for up to four years (depending on the position) and may be renewed. It does not lead directly to permanent residence but facilitates the temporary relocation of skilled staff within multinational organisations.

The Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Work Visa allows foreign employees of a multinational company to temporarily work in a South African branch, subsidiary, or affiliate of their organization.
It is intended for skilled employees who are being transferred to South Africa to fill specialized roles within the company.

The ICT Work Visa is typically issued for a period of up to four years.

Extensions beyond the initial period are not usually allowed, and employees must return to their home country or apply for a different visa if they wish to stay longer.

The applicant must be employed by the foreign company for at least six months before transfer.

Proof of employment contract with the multinational company and assignment letter for the South African branch is required.
Applicants must hold qualifications and experience suitable for the position being transferred to.

The transfer must be temporary and align with company business needs.

Employees may only work for the specific South African branch and in the designated position.

The visa cannot be converted to another visa type from within South Africa.

Family members may accompany the employee only if approved as dependents on a separate visa application.

The visa remains valid for the period approved by the Department of Home Affairs.

Renewal is limited and usually requires submission of updated employment documentation showing continued necessity of the transfer.

After the visa expires, the employee must return to their home country or apply for a different visa if intending to remain in South Africa.
